Work becomes a hobby. The chase for knowledge is always challenging, change is constant, IT is always evolving. With the advent of BigData which was revolutionize by the birth of companies like Google, Twitter, Facebook, Netflix, the world of data shifts towards the Internet of Things (IoT). Also, AI is inevitably part of our lives. 8: 9: = My work experiences = 10: 11: |**Technology**|**Description**|**Work Since**|**Industry ** |**Expertise** 12: |**SQL Server**, T-SQL, Powershell|I started since SQL version 7.0|2000|CRM, marketing, e-commerce, inventory system, contact management, customer profiling, email deployment, intellectual property claims systems, digital media and online newspaper, trucking, movie streaming, public transportation|DBA, development, architect, data engineer, data warehousing, ETL, BI, optimization 13: |**.NET**| |2000|CRM, marketing, e-commerce, inventory system, contact management, customer profiling, email deployment, intellectual property claims systems, digital media and online newspaper, trucking, movie streaming, public transportation|Deployment, application support 14: |**Cassandra**|since DSE 4.5|2013|Trucking industry, movie streaming|Development, troubleshooting, installation, management, testing DSE integration 15: |**Elasticsearch**| |2013|Movie streaming|Development, support, installation and deployment 16: |**Java**| |2013|Learning to support Cassandra|Troubleshooting and support 17: |**Scala**| |2013|Learning to support Cassandra|Development 18: |**PostgreSQL**|since version 9.3|2014|Trucking industry|Development, data migration, DBA, troubleshooting, optimization 19: |**CentOS**|since version 6.5|2014|Trucking industry|Support for PostgreSQL and Cassandra 20: |**MariaDB**| |2016|Learning|to diversify DB knowledge 21: |**MongoDB**| |2016|Learning|to diversify DB knowledge 22: |(% colspan="2" %)**Machine Learning**|(% rowspan="4" %)2017|(% rowspan="4" %)Learning|(% rowspan="4" %)to diversify on emerging technologies 23: |(% colspan="2" %)Python 24: |(% colspan="2" %)R 25: |(% colspan="2" %)Jupyter 26: |(% colspan="2" %)**Emerging technologies**|(% rowspan="6" %)2017|(% rowspan="6" %)Learning|(% rowspan="6" %)to diversify on emerging technologies 27: |(% colspan="2" %)Spark, Storm 28: |(% colspan="2" %)Solr 29: |(% colspan="2" %)Kafka 30: |(% colspan="2" %)Puppet 31: |(% colspan="2" %)Kibana 32: |(% colspan="2" %)Docker 33: |(% colspan="2" %)Kubernetes 34: 35: == Database == 36: 37: I started my exploration way back year 2000. I was at the crossroad whether I go for Oracle or SQL Server. I follow the path of Microsoft, SQL Server market potential was growing, and the adaptation of companies to choose Microsoft database solution was expanding at a higher rate than Oracle. Oracle still dominates the enterprise space at that time, but SQL Server TPC benchmarks outclass Oracle, and slowly penetrate the enterprise market. SQL Server is the new kid in town that stole the show. 38: 39: With the birth of Facebook, Goggle and Twitter, bigdata ecosystem slowly gaining a buzz. Now its a trendsetter. The advent of noSQL databases slowly becomes a solution that make sense specially with the demand of IoT volume and velocity in terms of data. All of a suddent, we realized RDBMS limitations. In addition, most noSQL databases comes from open source, which is the future of software development. 40: 41: == My Own Sandboxes == 42: 43: I do have my own sandbox(s) at home. In my IT exploration, I like to have my own testing infrustructure. I love troubleshooting, I have a passion for it. I stood up 10 standalone PC with Xen servers, so I can virtualize and create my testing VMs, from Windows to Linux servers. Some of my skills acquired from previous job, I try to maintain by keeping abreast with these technology on a regular basis. That`s how I try to maintain my edge. 44: 45: 46: 47: 48: Of course, I do have this wiki, myITGuide.com. 49: 50: = Hobbies and Favorites = 51: 52: Outside of work, these are the things that keeps me occupied. 53: 54: == Basketball == 55: 56: Ah basketball. No question is my favorite sports. Eversince, I was 7 years old, started driblling a basketball. I was quite athletic during my teen years, early 20s, I have the ability to jump higher than average. I must admit that gift was not forever. I do manage to maintain a group of guys for years, we been playing together for more than 10 years. We not only created a basketball group, we form a community. 57: 58: The thing about team sports, it`s teamwork. Talent is not enough, it requires working together to achieve cohesiveness. That`s how you build a championship team. 59: 60: == Music == 61: 62: I`m always a guitar player. No I am no means experts by any stretch of imagination. I grew up in a community where guitar playing is a common hobby by most of my childhood friends, it`s part of the culture. I still continue to strum, sing a few notes. I own an electric guitar but my acoustic is my favorite. 63: 64: 65: 66: == Travel == 67: 68: Yes travel, explore the world. I always try to do it at least once a year, pack my bag and hop the plane. The Carribeans are the convinient destinations, Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic. It`s a great way to re-charge. Ever since I migrated here in Canada, which I consider home now, I didn`t have a chance to go back to my country of origin for more than 20 years. 2018 was the year I reconcile with my roots, and it is always good to come back. I went back with a different perspective where we should accommodate a time to have a vacation and reconnect to our roots, makes us appreciate more what we have now. 69: 70: == Dogs == 71: 72: I always love animals. I have a dog, a sitshu beachon, **//Steven//**. Oct 21, 2021, we acquire **//Kumot//** and **//Unan//**, both pure shitshu to join our pack. We also added //**Zoe, **the only female among the torns//. 73: 74: 75: 76: == Car == 77: 78: What can I say about car, I admire the craftsmanship. Maybe I should have been a Mechanical Engineer. 79: 80: = What's Beyond = 81: 82: 2000 - It always start in a dream. If I do have enough, I would love to own my own agricultural farm, stay close to nature, manage the business, possibly do IT consulting on the side. 83: 84: 2020, I acquired an agricultural farm in my country of origin, a glorious 2 hectares of land, with 67 mango trees, plus avocado, pineapple, cotton fruits, with different kinds of backyard vegatables like eggplant, okra, sitaw beans, and lots more. I also started my own broiler poultry business. I found a peaceful feeling in a rural area of a farm land and it would be more of an every once in a while vacation escape from my corporate life that I have spent 20 plus years so far. This enable me to achive a good balance. 85: 86: But I love IT, work becomes a hobby, and I would continue to pursue to grow from the constant evolution of technology specially in my area of expertise, the database world. 87: 88: = My Agricultural farm = 89: 90: Picture of an agricultural farm I'm developing, it will be my retirement gig. 91: 92: 93: 94: = References = 95: 96: * |rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank". 97: * |rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank". 98: \\ 99: 100: (% id="HInterestedingoingtoCanada2Chere27stheQRCodetosignupandinquire:" style="background:#eeeeee;border:1px solid #cccccc;padding:5px 10px;" %) 101: ((( 102: Interested in going to Canada, here's the QR Code to sign up and inquire: 103: ))) 104: 105:
